The stress related to infertility can often put a strain on relationships during the best of times. Add in the stress, anxiety, and uncertainty that many are experiencing due to the global pandemic, and it can take a serious toll on a relationship. This makes it even more important that you work to keep the romance alive with your partner, especially during Date Your Mate month! Below, the team at UNC Fertility offers four ways you can date your mate this month while practicing social distancing.

  1. Go For a Couples Hike

A lot of activities may be closed, but the hiking trails are open! Take some time to get out of the house and enjoy a long hike through nature together. Working up a sweat on the hiking trails will help keep you healthy and improve your mood.  It can also help improve your relationship, as studies have shown that exercising with your partner can increase your emotional bond.

  1. Enjoy a Picnic in the Park

Like hiking trails, plenty of parks are open for you and your partner to enjoy. The wide open space can help you abide by social distancing guidelines while also getting you out of the house. Together, pack up a healthy picnic and take it to your favorite park to enjoy in the sun.

  1. Have a Date Night At Home

Social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t have a romantic date night! Get all gussied up, pick up some delicious take out from your favorite local restaurant, and enjoy a romantic dinner at home under some candlelight. Spend your evening enjoying your meal and talking into the night – just like when you first started out!

  1. Lend A Helping Hand

Practicing gratitude can help couples who are struggling with the stress associated with infertility. One of the best ways to practice gratitude? Lend a helping hand to those in need. With so many individuals and families struggling right now, it’s the perfect time to grab your partner and volunteer. So long as you can do so safely, volunteer your time to help at a food bank or go donate blood together. Can’t volunteer outside of your home safely? There are ways for you to help out non-profits virtually as well!

Stress levels may be high, but there are still ways to strengthen your bond and date your mate while social distancing. Whether it involves spending time outdoors, having a date night at home, or helping those in need, there are plenty of ways you can keep the romance alive during the COVID-19 pandemic.
