Andrology is the medical specialty for men's health, particularly conditions affecting the male reproductive system. Male infertility is not uncommon and can account for 50% of couples' infertility. There are known factors that potentially lead to infertility in males including: 

Genetic disorders
Hormonal imbalances
Infection (acute and chronic)
Anatomic issues
Previous surgery or vasectomy
Direct injury (testicular or pelvic trauma, heat, irradiation etc)
Indirect injury (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, environmental toxins, drugs, tobacco, alcohol, etc.)

The Andrology Laboratory at UNC Fertility offers male patients convenient and confidential diagnosis and treatment. Our services include:

Semen analysis
Centrifugation and pellet analysis for azoospermia
Semen cryopreservation and storage
Surgically extracted sperm and testicular tissue cryopreservation and storage 
Retrograde ejaculation (post-ejaculate urine) assessment 
Seminal vesicle aspiration
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) processing
Sperm morphology testing
Leukocytospermia screening

In addition to the services above, UNC Fertility has an onsite Urologist. Dr. Matt Coward, in collaboration with the IVF Laboratory, offers:
