While In Vitro Fertilization offers many patients their best chance at achieving a pregnancy, there are those for whom it is financially out of reach or not an option due to the high levels of stimulation necessary. For some of these patients, a new mid-point fertility treatment option called INVOcell can serve as a way for achieving pregnancy.
What is INVOcell?
The INVOcell is a medical device that allows for egg fertilization and early embryo incubation to occur within a woman’s own body. Using this method, the sperm and egg are placed in the inner chamber of the device, which is then placed inside the vaginal cavity. Here, fertilization and early embryo development occur. After three days, the device is removed and the embryos are observed under the microscope. The best embryos are then selected and placed into the woman’s uterus.
Is INVOcell right for me?
INVOcell is a highly attractive option as the procedure can be provided at a much lower cost than traditional IVF, due to less medication, fewer blood draws and monitoring appointments, and less time commitment from the lab – all while providing success rates up to four times better than Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). However, this fertility treatment option is only for select patients. Speak with your fertility doctor at UNC Fertility to determine whether this option is right for you.
